Suzie Glodek, 1945-2025 (If you’ve done the math, please just tell the grandkids she’s 19 as she’s led them to believe that for many years.) She bravely battled multiple myeloma for 6 ½ years then bravely made the decision to enter hospice care. She passed away at home, right where she wanted to be.
She was born into a big family, the Dumas clan of Hopkins, and was a middle child to her very core.
Fast forward to her married life, Suzie always shared that she was fortunate to have had two great loves in her life. She met and married Charlie ‘Brown’ Schmit and they lived most of their life together on a hobby farm in Watertown, raising two kids, Ben and Sadie. There she nurtured her love of antiques and finding pig treasures. Many shenanigans with friends and neighbors ensued over the years including some pretty epic shed parties. Sadly, Charlie lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in 1993.
Along came her second great love, Rick Glodek. It was full steam ahead with new adventures including trips and winter getaways to Bonita Beach (she collected so many shells!), Brownsville, Texas (loved day trips to Mexico!), Parker, AZ (rocks, she really loved the rocks there!), and many camping adventures.
A lifelong learner, Suzie’s official career began once both kids were in school. She worked hard taking night classes, and became a dental assistant. Much to the chagrin of the family, sugary snacks were limited, and regular brushing, flossing and fluoride treatments were enforced. In addition to her love of good dental hygiene, she often dabbled in new things including, but not limited to: quilting, stained glass, calligraphy, shell tree creations and scherenschnitte (look it up!) Her most recent endeavor was making cards – she had a whole room dedicated to making her treasured works of art.
Conversations with Suzie were never short. She loved to tell stories that often included a few…minor embellishments. It was often noted that she talked with her hands. Some even wondered if her hands were tied down, would she still be able to talk? (That question was never tested…)
Suzie is survived by so many loved ones – siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins galore, and of course so many friends, including special connections she made at her home in the Applewood Pointe community in Champlin. Her greatest joys were her husband, Rick, her two children, Ben and Sadie (Josh), and the ‘grands,’ as she often referred to them.
If you ever stopped by to visit her, she may have sent you on your way with one (or more!) of these phrases:
• Write when you get work.
• Don’t talk to strangers.
• Keep it between the ditches.
• Don’t take any wooden nickels.
Of course, these were followed by the “secret wave” (if you know, you know.)

Finally, when the time is right and Suzie’s ashes are to be buried, her wish for her gravestone is to have these words:
I’m dead. I’m not coming back. And I mean it.
We love you, Little Lady, you are already missed so much.
