Therese M. (Eibner) Juba

Therese Marie Juba

Therese was born on June 28, 1927, in New Ulm, MN to Alois and Clara Eibner. She was the second oldest of 4 children with siblings Rosemary, Marian, and Willibald. Growing up Therese joined her siblings working in the family restaurant business, Eibner’s and Sons. She enjoyed her time spent in the restaurant, bakery, candy shop, and ice cream production, and cherished those memories. Therese loved the endless supply of fresh vanilla ice cream before it was packaged.

Therese met her husband, Richard “Dick” Juba on a blind date while she was attending college in St. Cloud, and Dick was attending St. John’s University. After obtaining her teaching certificate, they were married on June 9, 1952.

Dick and Therese’s first home was in Tacoma, WA when he joined the Army. Their first two children, Catherine and Michael, were born in Tacoma. Dick and Therese returned to Minnesota to teach at Delano where Gregory, their third child was born. Later they moved to Crystal, MN where Barbara and Mark were born. Since family was very important to Therese, she took a break from teaching to raise her children. Later, while teaching full-time, Therese returned to St. Cloud State College in her late 40’s to obtain an advanced degree in Elementary Special Education. Once a week, after a day of teaching, she drove 1 ½ hours to attend an evening of classes before driving home again. She was very proud of her Special Education degree. She finished her teaching career in the Robbinsdale School District, retiring in 1987.

Therese enjoyed traveling. Her deep love of family took her on many trips to visit them and care for her grandchildren. Other trips included traveling to Germany to research her ancestry, accompanying Michael to Mexico for dental missionary work, and numerous yearly “Girl’s Trips” to Sanibel, FL with Catherine and Barbara. She attended many St. John’s football games with Greg and his family, and frequent trips to Disney World with Mark and his family. Therese loved her grandchildren, and she loved attending their numerous activities. Therese enjoyed many hobbies including cross-stitching, crocheting, crafting, and bird watching.

Faith was very important to Therese, and she had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary. She spent many hours in adoration, attended daily mass, prayed the liturgy of the hours and the rosary. Therese was a member of the Third Order of Lay Carmelites, which called her to live a way of life dedicated to prayer, community and ministry. Therese and Dick founded the Adoration Chapel at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in June of 1997, which continues to this day. Therese took many religious pilgrimages with her husband and family to Medjugorje, Garabandal, Betania, the Holy Land, Lourdes, the Basilica of St Therese of Lisieux in France, and to Mexico City’s Shrine to Our Lady of Guadeloupe.

After Dick passed away in 1999, Therese lived independently in her townhouse next to St. Raphael’s until she was 90 years old. She then moved into St. Therese Senior Housing in New Hope before transitioning to Norris Square Memory Care in Cottage Grove for her final three years. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family on September 8, 2023.
