Vasiliy M. Shvets

Vasiliy Shvets was born in Krasnoarmeysk, Moldova on June 2nd, 1943. Growing up he had a difficult life: their family was poor, and he was one of 8 children. God has kept Vasiliy alive through the big hunger after World War II, even when it seemed like he was about to die.

Vasiliy finished high school in Moldova and started working as a utility service worker. As a second job Vasiliy would help his community with construction projects. Vasiliy got married to Zinovya, then headed out to serve in the Army. As Vasiliy’s family grew to having six children, he transitioned to a government service worker position.

When the family moved to Tiraspol in 1988, he served as a deacon in church, a leader. He was a right-hand man for the pastor. His entire life was dedicated to providing for his family through construction and serving in the church. Vasiliy was an exemplary worker in Tiraspol.  He performed his job so well that he was recognized by the city multiple times, and his photo would typically be displayed at the center of the city.

As the church grew, a new church plant was opened, and Vasiliy was selected as a leader of that church plant. Vasiliy was also musically gifted: he sang in choir, was a member of a quartet, and played accordion. In 2002 the family moved to the US.

Vasiliy was always remembered as a person who is always involved in service to the church and the family.  He would never say “no” to anybody. He would never deny helping others, and would always put others before his own needs. He was very sacrificial with his time and resources to help people who could not afford it. He lived out a selfless life, filled with kindness and generosity.

Vasiliy will be greatly missed, but we have this unwavering hope that we will see him again in heaven!
