Listen to Obituary

Wanda Kay Schoeneberger (Landswerk) of Plymouth, MN passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family as they shared story after story that illustrated Wanda's empathy, spunk, and sense of humor.

Wanda was born on May 2, 1950 in Decorah, IA. Her family moved up to Maple Plain, MN during high school and she graduated from Orono High School in 1968. She went on to college at Moorhead State where she received her degree in Elementary Education. While at Moorhead State she met Robert Schoeneberger. They were married for 53 years and together they raised their two daughters in faith and love.

Wanda went on to earn her Master's Degree in Special Education while working full-time. She was an exceptional teacher who spent the bulk of her 40 year career in the Orono School District teaching special education to kindergarten - 2nd graders. She was a passionate advocate for her students and a very creative teacher.

Wanda's boundless energy was unsurpassed. She was rarely idle and she focused that energy on helping others. Whether it was making a meal for a sick friend or helping her fellow residents at Trillium Woods, she was the first to identify someone in need and to step in to help. She loved a good sale and took great pride in finding the best bargains. Wanda loved a good laugh (even at herself!), coffee, a good book, and taking trips with her sister Debbie, her favorite travel partner.

Wanda was, above all else, the most loving and devoted mother. She never missed a game, concert or school activity - cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines for ALL participants. She even had her own signature cheer that let you know she was in the stands! In retirement, Wanda embraced her favorite role yet, being a Nana to her four grandchildren. She cherished and celebrated every milestone and offered constant encouragement and love.

Even in the later stages of dementia, when it became nearly impossible to communicate, Wanda's caring nature shined through. Her eyes would light up and she was quick with a hug for all who visited.

Wanda is survived by her husband Robert Schoeneberger; daughters, Erika (Chris) Landerud, Gina (Kyle) Thrapp; grandchildren, Kayla, Clint, Lydia, and Emerson; sister, Debbie (Robert) Walrath; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Spencer and Bernice Landswerk.

Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Birches, Trillium Woods, and North Memorial Hospice, for their wonderful care and comfort they provided to Wanda and her entire family.
