Welby F. Clemmer

Welby Francis “Frank” Clemmer, of Golden Valley, MN was born February 4, 1934 in Fargo, ND and died January 29, 2022 in St. Louis Park, MN. He was 87 and preceded in death by parents Welby “Webb” Francis Clemmer and Clarice Nelson Clemmer, sisters Bergit Clemmer and Barbara Clemmer Graziano, and nephew Welby Alexander Gliszinski.

Frank is survived and missed by sister Cathleen Clemmer Gliszinski, significant other of 27 years Joy Wener Bang, a niece, nephews, numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Graduating from Minneapolis’ West High School in ‘53, it’s not surprising that Frank was voted “Wittiest” in his senior class. Serving in the U.S. Army, Frank was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston Texas, where he received a National Defense Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1956.

Frank studied art at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and was an exceptionally gifted visual artist. As a younger man, Frank worked as a bartender, earning Mpls. magazine’s designation of one of “The Twins’ (Cities) Most Eligible” in their April ‘76 edition.

Always known as a “car guy,” Frank loved his luxury vehicles, especially sport cars, owning a Singer Roadster, an Austin-Healy, a Jaguar, several Porsches, and many more over the years. Frank will be lovingly remembered for his quick sense of humor, his enjoyment of jazz music, his various canine companions, and his frequent vacations to Mexico’s sunny beaches.

Retiring after 31 years with the U.S. Postal Service, Frank worked out of the downtown Minneapolis, then St. Louis Park locations. He was a proud member of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU).

Memorial Service Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, 3960 Wooddale Avenue South, St. Louis Park, MN 55416. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Animal Humane Society, 845 Meadow Lane N, Golden Valley, MN 55422 or to donor's choice.
