Claudia A. (Naughton) Capello

Claudia Capello (Naughton), 62, passed away on Jan. 22, 2023, at her Minneapolis home, surrounded by loved ones, music, and prayers. Even after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Claudia never lost her cheerful disposition, her passion for music, and her deep love for her family, especially her husband of 35 years.

Born in Chicago IL, Claudia was the 4th born out of 10 children in the Naughton Family. Often called Mamasita (Little Mama in Spanish) by her family, Claudia could be found helping her mother cook, clean, and care for her younger siblings. Taking after their mother Olga, the Naughtons are a family of musicians and Claudia was a tremendous singer.

Claudia attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior, studying early childhood education. She then moved to Minneapolis, where her passion for music led her to meet the love of her life, John Capello. The couple met as members of the Skyway Singers, a Minneapolis choral group. John and Claudia were in several bands together throughout their marriage, sharing their wonderful voices and raising thousands of dollars for their church and children’s schools. Claudia especially loved cantering at her church, Holy Family Catholic Church, using her talents to express her deep Catholic faith.

The couple married in 1987, and following her parents’ footsteps, had a large family of 7 children.

A dedicated mother, Claudia showered each of her children with love and care. She instilled in them her deep love of music, passion for the arts, appreciation for her Mexican and Irish heritage, and most of all the compassion and love of family. Claudia was a devoted Catholic, with a great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Claudia was a caretaker at heart, caring for her father in his old age, helping her community, raising her children, and loving her husband. With the decline in her health, her family and friends could return the love she bestowed on them by providing her comfort and care till the very end. Her husband was especially dedicated to her care. Although her speech was limited in the end, her final few words were “I love you” to John.

Claudia is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Olga and Thomas Naughton, Her Niece, Bridget Clifton, and her Nephew, Sean Lipinski.

She leaves behind her husband, John Capello, and her children, Erin (Shaun) Kopp, Jonathan (Emily) Capello, Gabrielle (Josh) Capello, Sofia (Evan) Capello-Florin, Antonio Capello, Dom Capello, and Jax Capello.
She also leaves behind her beloved 4 grandchildren, Juliette, Damian, Leona, and Carter.
