Eugene “Gene” Schlumpberger of Golden Valley, Minnesota, passed away peacefully and went to his Heavenly Home with his family by his side on Nov 17, 2023 at the age of 85.

Gene was born in Little Falls, Minnesota to the late Edward and Florence Schlumpberger. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1956 and enlisted in the US Air Force, 4 months after his 18th birthday. He proudly served our country in England, Turkey, Pakistan and Germany as a wire and antenna systems specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1960. He worked briefly for the Little Falls Cable Company maintaining cable towers. Gene received an education from Brown Institute in Medical Electronics and the University of Minnesota General College.

In 1963 Gene moved to Kansas City, Missouri with his brother Emmy. Gene found employment at the Videon Television Service in Kansas City. Catherine (Cathy) Karnowski, his soon to be wife, moved from Little Falls to Kansas City to be with him. Gene and Cathy were married on September 28, 1963 in Kansas City. They returned to Minnesota in 1964 and settled in Golden Valley, where they raised 2 sons and a daughter. Gene worked at Spot TV Services as a TV Technician and Dayton’s Electronic Services as a Master Technician. He later found employment with Park Nicollet Health Systems as a courier.

Gene enjoyed spending time with family and put them first. He was incredibly generous; always helping his kids and grandkids, and was often looked at as a father figure to others. He spent 17 years helping his children with various paper delivery routes. In addition to his family, Gene’s hobbies included riding his Harley Davidson, fixing cars, electronics, camping, music, gardening and striking up a genuine conversation with anyone and everyone. He had the best laugh and silly, yet catchy ”one-liners” that have become part of his legacy!

Gene was a devout Catholic, served as a 3rd degree Knight with the Wayzata Council of Knights of Columbus and prayed the rosary everyday.  The empty chair left at the dinner table and the hole left by his absence, will be impossible to fill.

Gene was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Florence (Schneider) Schlumpberger and sister, Jordyce (Simon) Johnson.

He is survived by his wonderful wife of 60 years, Catherine (Karnowski) Schlumpberger; sons, Jeff (Andrea) and Jon (Jennie); daughter, Annie Brosseau (Mike); grandsons, Mark (Sofia), Bill, Luke and Nick; granddaughter, Marie; great grandchildren, Allie and James; brothers, Delmar and James “Emmy” (Jeannie) Schlumpberger; many nieces, nephews and cousins;  and his granddogs, who will miss him immensely.
