June 13th, 1973 - June 18th, 2021

Age: 48

Lauri Anne Deatherage (Winkelman), born in Robbinsdale, MN, devastatingly lost her life on June 18th just 5 days after getting married to her husband, Billy Deatherage. She spent many points in her life living with various family members before joining the Air Force in 1992, serving in support of Operation Desert Storm until her discharge in 1994. She was incredibly proud of the fact that she served with the honor guard and represented when providing honor to those service members that preceded her.

During the years following her military service she worked in the medical administration field before pursuing her passions in art and design. She focused on customized special occasion cards and costumes for the renaissance festival. She also did some modeling at one point.

Lauri was a kind, giving, and truly loving person who continuously strived to help those who were struggling by opening her home while they re-established themselves. For others, she acted as a resource they could turn to when they needed emotional support.

She loved her family without exception, due in part to the challenges of her past, but she never let any of that hold her back. As she liked to say, she was a healthy result of the system. Her life taught her that even with issues, differences, and distance your family members are one of the most important things you can have.

Within the various communities and organizations she belonged to, she was well known and respected. She was especially proud to be a member of the Eastern Stars. She was also an avid reader and gamer and belonged to many book and gaming groups.

Lauri had a genuinely contagious smile and laugh. Those around her were fortunate enough to see her at her happiest moment in the last week of her life when she was able to finally join together in marriage with her “lost and found again” soulmate. She is extremely missed and we were all fortunate enough to have her in our lives.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Deatherage, children Felicia and Skyler Deatherage, her step-parents Rebecca Brooking and Rick Wyttenbach, her siblings, Scott Kantor, Debbie Kantor, Edwin Winkelman Jr., Jacob (Dada) LaBelle, Michael (Katie) Winkelman, Samantha (Scott) Farrell, Elizabeth Winkelman and all of her nieces and nephews who she loved dearly, in addition to all of her other loving family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Edwin M. Winkelman, her aunts MaryKay and Renee, grandparents Edwin L. and Rosemary Winkelman and Vern and Irene Stelmack, Brother Jeff Kantor, and her sister Stella Winkelman.

Visitation will be Wednesday (6/30), 5-8 PM with memory sharing 6 PM at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 W. Broadway. Memorial contributions can be made to Billy Deatherage.  Interment at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
