Betty Elaine Bauer was born on Feb. 4, 1929, and died peacefully at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park on May 16.

Betty was the youngest of seven children in the Schuster family, and she was the last living member of her generation. She started life in the rural town of Hope, Minnesota and moved to Minneapolis as a teenager.

Betty worked at the downtown branch of the Minneapolis Public Library for 38 years. The excellence of her work led her to being chosen as Miss Public Employee, in 1951. After retirement, she was generous with her time, volunteering at the Library book shop.

She was married in 1954 and divorced 11 years later.

Betty was a saver, a skill she put to good use throughout her life. She traveled the world, including trips to California, New York, Hawaii, and to many other states. Betty also visited many places in Europe, journeying to Italy, France and Germany, to name a few. Her adventurous nature was strengthened by a resilient personality. She found ways to persevere when the going got tough. She liked a joke, and was a friend to all. She also loved fashion and had a great sense of style.

Betty loved her daughters, Liz and Suzanne, and her granddaughter Anna. She was always proud of her girls. She was also a great mother-in-law, adding Matthew (Liz’s husband) and Son (Suzanne’s husband) to her family.
