David M. LaClare, of Plymouth. Died peacefully surrounded by family on November 9 th at the age of 80.

Predeceased by parents Lawrence and Billie LaClare.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 59 years and high school sweetheart, Julie (nee Berglund); five daughters Caytie (Bill) Pohlen-LaClare, Lisa (Ron) Kickhafer, Paula (Kirk) Moleski, Carla (Curtis) Barton, Tara (Joe) Swanholm; 17 grandchildren, their spouses and 8 great-grandchildren, his brothers Jim (Connie), Charlie (Arlene), extended family and MANY friends.

Dave was born March 27, 1941, in Minneapolis. He grew up in the north side of Minneapolis, graduated from De LaSalle ’59 and went on to graduate from the University of MN Business School.

He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Julie, in April 1962. They raised 5 beautiful daughters whom Dave adored and thoroughly enjoyed to tease. Dave spent his career in insurance in the pension and group benefit plans, which brought him to Cincinnati, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Des Moines, IA and back to Minneapolis, where he eventually retired. He was a hard working, compassionate, witty, man of integrity and a devoted friend to many.

Each new member of the family, whether they joined by marriage or birth, were welcomed by Dave. He delighted in the addition of sons-in-laws; having all the benefits of sons without raising them.

Every grandchild had their own special connection or interest they shared with Grandpa. The addition of grandchildren-in-laws and great-grandchildren meant a larger family circle and Dave enjoyed them all. He was often heard saying "if I knew grandkids were this much fun, I'd have had them first."

Dave had a strong Catholic faith which led him to be active at church and with his fellow Cursillo group members. He also spent time volunteering with prison ministry.

Those who knew him remember the twinkle in his eye and his easy laugh. His love of music included Neil Diamond and Marty Robbins. John Denver songs are forever seared in his daughters’ memories thanks to the infamous Colorado camping trip.

Dave believed in living a healthy lifestyle with the motto "everything in moderation." Biking (many bike trips across Nebraska), running, skiing, and strength training were some of his favorite physical activities. During his daughters’ teen years, he often met their boyfriends in his tight t-shirt and workout towel flung over his shoulder, just to let them know "you better treat my daughters well." Over the last 11 years, he was a “regular” at Courage Kenny. He worked on keeping his body fit while continuing to grow his circle of friends.

Dave will not only be deeply missed by his family, but also by the many lives he touched.
