Survived by wife of 56 years, Mary; children, Tom, Sue Johnson and John; grandchildren, Kristi and Tony Johnson; brothers, George and Karl; sister-in-law, Sue Abel and husband Dick; and many other family members and friends.

Steve was a teacher in District 281 for 30 years. Having been born and raised in Ely, "The coolest little town in Minnesota", Steve always enjoyed the lake country.

Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
